Roosevelt Island - Potomac River

Roosevelt Island - Washington DC

The 'boat ramp' is merely lowering your kayak down an embankment and getting into the river. There is a free parking lot, but it fills up rapidly during the weekends.

Roosevelt Island is connected to the put ins at Dyke Marsh, National Sailing Marina, Gravelly Point, and Columbia Island Marina via the Mount Vernon Bicycle Trail if you wish to not engage the combat DC Metro Area driving style required for a shuttle.

Launching your kayak here provides for a pleasant paddle around the amazingly loud Teddy Roosevelt Island National Park. You can head upstream or downstream, but be aware that wind and waves can be an issue on this stretch of the Potomac River.
