I used two of these bail sponges primarily to soak up moisture inside the front and the stern hatches. My other use for them is for removing any leftover water inside the hatches and the cockpit. They also work well for scooping up fine wet sand inside the cockpit and have a tremendous absorbent capacity. My recommendation when using these sponges is to avoid sharp edges and screw tips which that might slash them. They are not cheap for sponges (about $10), but make excellent birthday presents for fellow kayakers.
